Controller – Bellevue

Hours: 40/week; M-F

Pay: DOE

Class: Exempt

Location: Bellevue, WA

Purpose

Provide leadership, financial expertise, internal controls, and oversight of Kindering’s entire accounting operations.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise daily operations of the Accounting Department.
  • Manage accounting staff, including delegation of duties, daily oversight, performance evaluation, training and coaching.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting systems and processes and ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
  • Ensure that departments and agency partners receive accurate and timely information and financial reports, such as quarterly budget reports for managers, and expenditure reports for various contracts.
  • Ensure the department responds accurately to requests for financial information from executive team and grant/contract staff.
  • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances. Develop the organizational budget in partnership with the CEO and contract CFO.
  • Coordinate financial operations including preparing monthly financial statements, month-end close and year-end close.
  • Analyze financial data and conduct predictive financial analysis.
  • Maintain and update internal control processes along with Accounting policy and procedures manual.
  • Ensure internal controls including with bank deposits.
  • Oversee fixed assets and investment schedules.
  • Handle internal and external financial audits. Act as primary agency representative in all external financial audits, including scheduling and preparation for audits. Assist and support 403b audit.
  • Oversee the release of restricted donations quarterly in accordance with agency expenses.
  • Oversee monthly benefits reconciliations and quarterly account reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with HR and Accounting to process monthly payroll and post to general ledger, including monthly transfers for HSA and 403(b) funds.

Required Education & Experience

  • Advanced degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or CMA preferred. Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures required.
    • Proven experience as a Controller or leading accounting department in a 20+ million-dollar organization.
    • 5+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience.
    • Accounting experience in a complex non-profit multi-site agency preferred.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills; experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills including creation of pivot tables.
  • Experience with Power BI, SQL and analysis tools a plus.
  • Experience with creating financial statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
  • A fundamental understanding of current issues and challenges facing individuals from diverse backgrounds

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check
  • Pass tuberculosis test
