Kindering, a not-for-profit neurodevelopmental center, has provided comprehensive services for children with special needs and their families since 1962.  We are committed to creating and providing superior, individualized, family-centered services for children who are disabled, medically fragile or vulnerable because of abuse or neglect.  Kindering is dedicated to maintaining a highly trained, licensed and certified team of professionals.  Current services include comprehensive developmental assessments, physical and occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, special education, family counseling, nutrition and feeding team, child care consultation, parenting education, and family resource coordination.

Parent Child Home Program (PCHP)-Bilingual Home Visitor – Bellevue

Purpose

To provide home visits for the Parent-Child Home Program, a national program with the goal of supporting parents of 1.5-3.5 year olds, by increasing parent-child interaction, promoting child pro-social-emotional behavior and advancing pre-literacy skills. Build strong relationships with families, creating a welcoming and trusting environment to best support the parent while modeling important skills. Ensure the program is delivered with respect to each family’s home language, culture, values and supporting parents as first teachers.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Visit assigned families twice a week, for thirty minutes each visit.
  • Utilize weekly book or toy at the home visits to model to parents how to use materials to enhance, play, language, and all interactions for the purpose of supporting positive child development and strong parent-child relationships.
  • Model for the parent how to respond appropriately to the behavior of two and three year old children. Encourage parents to realize their role as the child’s first and most important teacher. Supports a family’s full involvement in the program.
  • Write anecdotal reports of home visits.
  • Complete required assessments of children and parents.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records for families.
  • Work independently and maintain schedule for home visits.
  • Attend weekly program meetings and other PCHP required meetings/trainings.
  • Work closely with supervisors to recruit, interview and select families for home visits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with families and young children in a multi-cultural setting.
  • Understanding of issues specific to low-income immigrant and/or refugee communities, especially related to early childhood and families.
  • Skilled at relationship building with individuals, and families while maintaining appropriate boundaries, respecting family choice, and cultural competency.
  • Comfortable working both independently and as a team member
  • Basic knowledge of child development and interest in play with toys and books.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English plus one of either Spanish, Arabic or Amharic
  • Ability to complete home visits throughout East King County
  • Ability to work 8-5 daily plus occasional flexible hours evenings and weekends

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check
  • Possess valid Washington State driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
  • Have access to a dependable personal vehicle and ability to drive to/from home visits throughout East King County on a daily basis
  • Have current first aid and CPR certification or become certified within 6 months
  • Able to perform physical activities such as lifting 30 pounds, climbing up/down stairs, bending, kneeling, etc. while working with children
  • Pass tuberculosis test

Our ideal candidate can work full time 40 hours per week.

This position will be at least 30 hours per week but may increase to 40 hours dependent on funding.

The position runs from September to June only and includes 35 weeks, with summers and school breaks off (unpaid).
