Sibshops at Kindering

Sibshops are fun, action-packed workshops in which siblings of children with special needs are encouraged to share challenges and celebrate joys with their peers in similar situations. It’s a celebration of the many contributions that the siblings of children with special needs make to their families and communities.

What happens at Sibshops?

During Sibshops, we mix fun games, playground time, and social activities with opportunities for discussion and connection. We strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, vulnerable space for siblings. It is empowering and normalizing to connect to peers and adults who share the unique bond of having a sibling with a disability who “get it!”

Who can attend?

Typically developing 9-12 year olds (or within this age range during the current academic year) who have siblings with disabilities. Families registering do NOT need to be affiliated with Kindering or receiving Kindering services to attend. Groups may be split by age/grade for some activities.

How much does it cost?

$30 per session, per child. This includes dinner. Scholarship funds may be available upon request.

When and where?

Sibshops happen on the second Thursday of each month from 4:30-7pm at Kindering Bellevue (located behind Bellevue Fire Station 3): 16120 NE 8th St., Bellevue, WA 98008.

How to register?

Sign up for each session online by filling out the Sibshops Registration Form (each monthly workshop must be registered for separately using this form)

Please note: Although we make every attempt to accommodate everyone who registers, we do have a limited number of spaces for Sibshops. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for each session, and confirmed via e-mail. If we do not have enough children registered for a group, Sibshops will be cancelled for that month.

About the Facilitators

Nikki Sullivan

My name is Nikki Sullivan and as a sibling myself, I am so excited for our 2022-2023 Sibshops! I grew up and have lived in the Seattle area my entire life, including going to UW for undergrad and graduate school. In my spare time, I love skiing, hiking, scuba diving, biking, boating, and cooking. I also have a golden retriever who I love taking on walks and snuggling. My favorite food includes anything with chocolate and I’m always ready for game nights! I can’t wait to meet other sibs and have great chats.

Mindy Rohrback

I’m Mindy Rohrback and I’m so excited to be facilitating Sibshops and connecting with fellow sibs. I grew up in Redmond and Kirkland, and right now I live in Seattle near the Space Needle. I work as an Occupational Therapist at Kindering, and in my free time, I love watching movies, reading while snuggling with my cat Lemon, and doing art projects. My favorite animals are small-clawed otters, and my favorite food is cheeseburgers. I’m looking forward to getting to know you more and connecting over our shared experiences during Sibshops!
