Kindering Sibshops Registration

Our Sibshops is located at Kindering Bellevue, 16120 NE 8th St, Bellevue, WA 98008. There is parking right in front of the building, and drop off/pick up is at the door to Kindering. Parents are welcome to come in for the first few minutes to help their kids settle in, but we do ask parents to leave for the bulk of Sibshops. Currently, our Sibshops is geared towards children aged 9-12, and families registering do NOT need to be affiliated with Kindering/receiving Kindering services to attend.

We wanted to share a bit about the purpose and intent of Sibshops and the fun activities we do! We strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, fun, vulnerable space for sibs. It is empowering and normalizing to connect to peers and adults who share the unique bond of having a sibling with a disability who “get it.” Part of how we create a safe space is by keeping our discussions during Sibshops within the group – kids are of course welcome to process what happens with their parents afterward, however, sometimes sibs can be a little slower to open up about feelings, or find it easier to listen first before opening up in a group. We as facilitators are happy to answer questions about our planned activities, but will not share the contents of discussions with parents. Sibshops is not therapy, but rather a safe space to foster connections with shared experiences.

During Sibshops, our general flow is: fun movement activity, creating group expectations to foster safety and respectfulness, craft, dinner, discussion activity/project, games, and wrap up/check in. Some months we do not do every single one of these activities depending on how long things take!

We are offering monthly, in-person sessions held on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Participants are welcome to attend any of the Sibshops that work with their schedule each month, whether they have attended a Sibshops before. Sibshops is more like a club than a class, don’t worry if your child can’t attend every Sibshop during the school year, we’re happy to see them whenever they’re available to join!

Although we make every attempt to accommodate everyone who registers, we do have a limited number of spaces for Sibshops.

Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and confirmed via e-mail. In the event that we do not have enough children registered for a group, Sibshops will be cancelled for that month.

Please note that each monthly workshop must be registered for separately using the form below. Registration closes 48 hours in advance to allow us to prepare materials for the kids. If you have technical difficulties, please email sibshops@kindering.org with a screenshot of the error message.

Payment
We ask that families pay a $30 fee for participation. Scholarships are available for families unable to pay the fee. Please contact sibshops@kindering.org for scholarship details.

We also welcome additional donations from families that are able, which will help make Sibshops accessible to all.

Illness and General Consent*
I hereby give my child permission to participate in Sibshops. I also agree to hold Kindering Center harmless for any and all liability incurred as a result of my child’s participation. Further, I grant full permission to use any photographs, videotapes, recordings or any other record of this program for the purpose of education and promotion of Sibshops. I understand that some Sibshops may involve a trip to the nearby park; I give permission for my child to participate in group park trips. Sibshops may also involve snacks and food. I understand that unless prior communication is sent to the team, my child will be offered food.
