Early Childhood Educator – Renton

Purpose

Coordinate and implement special instruction under Part C of IDEA or early childhood preschool education for enrolled children under the supervision of a certified special education teacher.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Under supervision of a certified special education teacher, follow daily and monthly teaching plans; implement curriculum at Kindering, home, or community child care as needed; assist with exit testing process; prepare progress reports; maintain accurate records of contact for each child. All progress notes and reports will be co-signed by a certified special education teacher.
  • Comply with the Washington State Recommended Core Competencies for Paraeducators (http://www.k12.wa.us/SpecialEd/Paraeducator.aspx)
  • Participate in the implementation of each child’s total program as part of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Facilitate and lead community preschool or Co-Op classrooms under supervision.
  • Supervise Assistant Teachers and classroom volunteers in the community preschool/CoOp setting; attend/conduct regular staff meetings with Assistant Teachers and classroom team.
  • Meet with mentor regularly to provide supervision, discuss children, strategies, and treatment plans
  • Refer families to appropriate community or Kindering programs, support groups and other services.
  • Participate in Individual Family Service Plan conferences in cooperation with Family Resource Coordinator.
  • Attend department meetings, home visit team meetings and quarterly All-Staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Provide or support outreach, intensive informing, care planning, coordination, anticipatory guidance for complex health needs, assistance to access services, consultation, resource development, interagency coordination, training, program planning, quality management, and administration to support Medicaid programs.
  • As caseload allows, provide support to other departments via special projects, etc.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (in early childhood field preferred)
  • Evidence of skills and knowledge necessary to meet the needs of students eligible for special education under the supervision of a certificated teacher with a special education endorsement or a certificated educational staff associate
  • Practical experience in early childhood education and basic knowledge of child development

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check
  • Demonstrate skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Possess valid Washington State driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
  • Have access to a dependable personal vehicle
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds (average three-year-old)
  • Pass tuberculosis test
