Rivers’ & Lincoln’s Family Story

Chaia’s life changed rapidly after the birth of her first son, Rivers. Her second son, Lincoln, was born less a year later, and after a divorce, Chaia faced single parenthood with two babies. She soon noticed that both boys were behind in development, and she was scared. “I felt very, very alone. I had to this new journey to embark on and I had no idea how to handle it all,” said Chaia. “Then we came to Kindering. And it was a breath of fresh air.”

After staff and therapists answered Chaia’s questions, walked her through each process and detail, and made sure the family felt comfortable and confident with everything that was happening, Chaia finally felt like someone understood her family and what the challenges they were facing. “There had been many tears over the months, but they started to become tears of joy. Kindering made sure my boys were not forgotten, not overlooked, and not left behind because of their differences.”

Chaia has learned from Rivers’ and Lincoln’s therapists as well. Not only about what her children need, but has seen her own empathy grow for others. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to meet incredible people and see them care for my children as if they were their own. I’m made a lot of friends through this journey, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me and my family.”

Both of Rivers and Lincoln have now graduated from Kindering’s Early Intervention services. Through all the challenges, the family looks forward with a bright view of the future. “There are many hoops you jump through when you have kids with special needs. There are handouts after handouts, and research you must do, and many, many phone calls. The roadblocks and loopholes you have to navigate through are taxing. There’s a feeling of isolation for a bit… then you find your flock. I believe we have finally found ours. Thank you, Kindering, for helping us navigate this adventure. And thank you, Rivers and Lincoln, for choosing me to be your mom.”
