Early Intervention Social Worker

Purpose
Support children with disabilities or health impairments, providing individual therapy, family therapy, and/or dyadic infant mental health therapy and facilitating family participation.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide evaluation, assessment and treatment for children with special needs or developmental delays and/or disabilities.
  • Assess each child’s developmental level of functioning; develop daily and monthly plans; implement plan at Kindering, home, or community child care as needed; conduct formal evaluations of functioning; prepare progress reports; and maintain accurate records of contact for each child.
  • Provide infant mental health informed intervention and other relationship-based interventions for caregiver-child dyads to improve social-emotional and overall development.
  • Collaborate on treatment teams with Early Intervention staff.
  • Participate in the development of each child’s total program as part of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Facilitate Individual Family Service Plan conference in cooperation with Family Resource Coordinator.
  • Organize and facilitate therapeutic support groups for caregivers, mothers, siblings and couples.
  • Complete all documentation including progress notes, treatment plans and reports as required under Part C, DDD or school district contracts.
  • Adhere to Part C of IDEA and insurance billing requirements, as well as other funding sources
  • Provide or support outreach, intensive informing, care planning, coordination, anticipatory guidance for complex health needs, assistance to access services, consultation, resource development, interagency coordination, training, program planning, quality management, and administration to support Medicaid programs.

Required Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in related area of study (e.g. Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Early Childhood Special Education, Speech-Language Pathology, or another related field)
  • Valid Washington State professional license for providing early intervention services in Washington State (e.g. LMHC, LMFT, LICSW, SLP, Special Education Teaching OSPI Certification) or related associate license
  • Training in infant mental health, psychotherapy, family systems, and grief counseling
  • Eligible to apply for level 2 Infant Mental Health Endorsement through WA-AIMH (level 3 preferred)
  • Experience working with young children, or a willingness to learn
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Current CPR and first aid certification or complete within 6 months of hiring
  • Experience working with diverse populations. Bilingual preferred.

Minimum Prerequisites

  • Pass Washington State DSHS criminal history and background check and FBI fingerprint check
  • Demonstrate skill in word processing and familiarity with MS Word and Excel
  • Possess valid Washington State driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
  • Have access to a dependable personal vehicle
  • Be able to lift 40 pounds (average three-year-old)
  • Pass tuberculosis tests; current first aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work some evenings or weekends
